Today marks day 92 since I kicked caffeine. The longest I've ever
gone is 40 or so days of Lent so this calls for serious bloggin. I have had a
few decafs for taste and sanity.
Side effects of my coffee obsession:
1-I didn't drink enough regular old water. I know so many people
rely on coffee all day. Your body needs real hydration. My doctor told me
many times to cut back and I refused to listen.
2- The headaches for the first three days cold turkey were
horrible. It pissed me off to know how addicted I was but it was also eye
opening to experience that pain. I don't want to be addicted to anything like that ever again.
Dear God, that was me.
3- By giving up coffee I also gave up the added sweeteners and
dairy as well. This causes my skin to be clearer-and from the added water
intake. Annnnnnd the donuts and breakfast sandwiches that find their way into
my car at the Dunks drive thru.
4-I need sleep. My work days are too freeking nuts between
teaching teenagers and instructing fitness classes. I am on the go from the
second I wake up until the second I hit the hay. I told myself I needed coffee
and found comfort in a cold espresso on psycho days. My days are still psycho
and I’m still alive.
**Epiphany**There is truly no substitute for a good night's rest,
a good sweat, and healthy eating. I feel so much better after a 5 AM workout
than after coffee. Whenever people said they didn't drink coffee or they didn't
like coffee, I literally thought they were aliens. Or snobs. Coffee was life for
me. But with my mind set on a 90 day challenge, I made healthy habits really
stick.
After I realized I could actually survive on water and food alone,
I realized how many other people try NOT to. EVERYONE on my damn Facebook feed
is selling something these days. Shakes, pills, patches, bars, supplements.
Newsflash!!!You don't need it, and those people want your money. I just want
you to read my free blog and save yourself some time and cash. Go for a walk
and eat a healthy breakfast. Problem solved. There is no shortcut to
feeling good.
And yes I know coffee is natural. There are no harmful side
effects. But our bodies are made to run off of food and water and endorphins. I
really dig those feelings.
Moral of the story: Just set your mind to something and actually
do it. What could you be reflecting on in 90 days? Oh yeah. And drink more
water!!
